by Morris & PowellThis is a great textbook, that I am sure is used in some ancient Greek history classes. The book is incredibly clear, and gives the reader a great sense of what was happening and what life was like in Greek times.
It covers everything, including politics, art, and private life. I think this is a great book if you want something to give you a sample of everything, with the intention of delving into the history deeper later, with a specialized text. Includes plenty of maps, pictures of art, and artifacts...all of which are necessary for understanding the context.
Highly recommended for anyone wanting to read about the subject.
